CITY CENTRE FIRST FOR CHORD HOMES

PRESS RELEASES

Chord Homes has unveiled plans for its first city centre living development, JQ1.

The Jewellery Quarter-based property developer is building 43 apartments at the junction of Newhall Street and George Street, Birmingham.

The developer acquired the site from Baker & Finnemore, the manufacturer of precision pressings, headquartered at 199 Newhall Street.

Accommodation at JQ1 will include one and two bedroom apartments, and a penthouse of circa 1,250 sq ft.

The two-storey penthouse, the only one at the development, will have glazing to two sides, giving views across the city. It will include two bedrooms, two ensuites and a study/third bedroom. The open plan ground floor area will boast a folding wall, so occupiers can create private areas within the living space.

The building is on five floors. The penthouse, along with a rooftop garden available for use by all residents, will take up the top floor. The ground floor will comprise circa 6,000 sq ft of commercial space. All third floor apartments will include terraces. Car parking will be available at the rear of the development.

The building’s exterior will incorporate marble, brick, glass and stainless steel, creating, according to Chord director Geoff Shuttleworth, a statement building.

He said: “We will be creating a landmark tower on the corner of Newhall Street and George Street, which befits the development’s proximity to the Jewellery Quarter and reflects the site’s industrial heritage.”

Work on the apartments, designed by Chord Homes’ in-house team, will begin next month. The homes will be on sale from April, and ready for occupation from Spring 2006.
